Pictures from Elder Burnett

Pipestone National Monument is dedicated to the Lakota Sioux and the land that they consider Sacred. Pipestone is harvested to make the peace pipes.


This contains the Oracle. Can you see the face in the rock?


The ribbon around the tree holds tobacco. It is a offering to the Great Creator and to Earth Mother.


The Bueaty of Minesotta. The Three Maidens are also in this picture.


"Old Stone Face". This stone pillar rises about 25ft up. Around it is about 6 feet of space. In order for many native women to accept a man, they had to jump to this pillar and place and arrow in the top.
